What is an ASN?

Created by Matthew Stephens, Modified on Fri, 20 Mar at 10:32 AM by Matthew Stephens

Definition: An ASN (Advanced Shipping Notice) is a notification sent before stock arrives at the warehouse to confirm what is being delivered.

In simple terms

It tells the warehouse what stock to expect, how much is coming, and when it will arrive.

What information is included

An ASN typically includes:

  • Product SKUs

  • Quantities

  • Delivery details

  • Reference information

Why this matters

Using an ASN helps:

  • Speed up the goods in process

  • Reduce errors when receiving stock

  • Ensure stock is booked in correctly

ASN notice periods

We operate ASN notice periods to ensure we can plan and receive stock efficiently.

More detail on this can be found in the guide: What are the ASN notice times?

What happens if no ASN is provided

If stock arrives without an ASN:

  • Receiving may take longer

  • There is a higher risk of discrepancies

  • Additional checks may be required
