What is a backorder?

Created by Matthew Stephens, Modified on Fri, 20 Mar at 10:31 AM by Matthew Stephens

Definition: A backorder is when an order cannot be fulfilled because the required stock is not currently available.

The order is held until stock becomes available and can then be processed.

In simple terms

The order has been received, but it is waiting for stock before it can be picked and despatched.

What happens next

The order remains on hold.
Once stock is received, it will move back into the fulfilment process.
The order will then be picked, packed, and despatched.

Where to check

You can view backorders in Mintsoft by going to:

Orders → Back Orders

Here, you can see which orders are on backorder and why they are on backorder.

Common questions

Why has my order gone on backorder?

This usually happens when:

  • There is not enough available stock

  • Stock has not yet been received

  • There is a stock discrepancy
